Black Cherry Peach Smash

Every backyard barbecue deserves a little cocktail action. This Black Cherry Peach Smash combines my two favorite summer flavors: juicy peaches and sweet black cherries.

I practically live in my backyard during the summer. If I’m not relaxing on my patio, then I’m soaking up the sun at my parents’ house while the pups run around their expansive backyard. They like to race around the perimeter of the yard while they weave in and out of the huge cypress trees my mom planted eons ago.

My parents took their swimming pool down years ago when my siblings and I grew up and stopped using it. In retrospect, I’m not sure why we stopped getting in the pool and wish it still existed. To make up for the lack of cool water, my brother and I purchased a small plastic kiddie pool “for the dogs”, so we at least get to dip our feet in while they splash around and have fun.

On the weekends, there’s always grilled food and a signature cocktail. My mom and I set up the tiki bar, equipped with a fancy grass umbrella, and sit out under the trees while we sip on our summery cocktails.

This week’s signature cocktail combines juicy peaches and sweet summer cherries. I don’t know how the peaches have been in your neck of the woods, but in Baltimore, the farmers have been supplying us with the sweetest, juiciest peaches this season. I’m talkin’ juice-running-down-your-arms juicy. And, they’ve been gigantic. I buy a big basket every Saturday when I visit my local farmers’ market.

I smashed a few hunks of peach with a shot of peach vodka and topped the boozy mixture with oh, so delicious mike’s hard black cherry lemonade. Their black cherry lemonade is a vibrant shade of deep crimson and tastes like cherries to the max. It’s bursting with sweet cherry flavor, and I love it to pieces. It tastes so good that you almost forget it’s an alcoholic beverage.

Black Cherry Peach Smash

Sweet, juicy peaches get muddled with peach vodka and topped with fizzy mike’s hard black cherry. It’s refreshing summer cocktail perfect for a party.

Yield: 2 cocktails

Total Time: 2 minutes

Prep Time: 2 minutes

Cook Time: 0 minutes

Ingredients:

• 2 ounces peach vodka
• 1 ripe peach, cut into 4 slices
• 1 (11.2-ounce) bottle mike’s hard black cherry

Directions:

1. Remove the peach skin from two peach slices. Add 1 slice of peach to two tall glasses. Add1 ounce of vodka to each glass. Muddle the peach using a cocktail muddler or wooden spoon.
2. Fill each glass with ice. Divide the mike’s hard black cherry between the two glasses. Garnish with the remaining peach slices.
