Raspberry Moscato Sangria

Spring has finally arrived. The sun is shining, the air is warm, and the birds are chirping.

My neighborhood is bustling with happy children playing ball, homeowners tending to their yard and gardens, athletes running at dusk, and bright-eyed dogs strolling down the sidewalk with their owners.

Hibernation is finally over.

Squirrel and I spent last weekend weeding, trimming, and preparing our veggie garden. We shoveled and hauled buckets of dirt down the hill to our little fenced in yard. We’re lucky to have a local dump close by that specializes in the production of compost. We woke up at the break of dawn last Saturday and drove to the dump where we shoveled heaping scoops of steaming, earthy compost from Mount Stinky Dirt into the back of Squirrel’s truck, aka The Beast. It was both rewarding and exhausting.

Raspberry Moscato Sangria

While Squirrel was using his muscles to till the veggie garden and soften the dirt, I worked on weeding the flower beds and cleaning our upper deck and lower patio. Yup, we have two decks. The kitchen on the second floor of our house leads to a large deck, and the basement leads to a rain-proof patio. Squirrel is pretty genius when it comes to home improvement. He used soffit to line the bottom of the deck to create a roof that protects the patio from rain. When it’s sunny, I sit upstairs. When it’s raining, I sit underneath the deck.

Once the weather breaks, you’ll find me lounging on one of my many outdoor chairs with a glass of wine and a book. It’s my signature look in the summer.

My preferred beverage of choice during the hot months of summer is an iced cold glass of sparkling sangria filled with sweet, vibrant seasonal fruit.

This week, the #SundaySupper team is partnering with the lovely Gallo Family Vineyards to celebrate Moscato Day (coming up on May 9th). You have to agree that this is the best day ever, right? A day dedicated to sweet, fruity wine… Come on!

Raspberry Moscato Sangria

Gallo produces three different types of Moscato:

  •  White Moscato– Crisp, fruity and bursting with flavors of peach, honey, and citrus.
  •  Pink Moscato– Light-bodied and bursting with citrus and peach, with a hint of red berry notes in the background.
  •  Red Moscato– Sweet red wine bursting with red berries and hints of citrus.

Gallo was nice enough to send me all three bottles of their Moscato. You guys, I drank all the wine—every single last drop. I’ve been lucky enough to try several different bottles of Gallo Family Vineyards’ wine, but their Moscato has to be my favorite. I’m not the only one who feels this way. Their Moscato is their best seller, making it a favorite amongst all who has had the pleasure of tasting these vibrant, fruity bottles of wine.

Raspberry Moscato Sangria

I thought about being selfish and not sharing a single drop with any of my friends and family. I planned on hoarding all three bottles to myself, but what kind of person would that have made me? So, I reluctantly poured a glass or two for my mom, my grandmother, and my best friend. Everyone loved the wine. Not one bad remark was noted.

Right now, the farmers’ markets are busting at the seams with fresh berries, which is why I decided to load my market bag with raspberries and whip up a batch of sparkling raspberry Moscato sangria.

Raspberry Moscato Sangria

This sangria is slightly sweet, fruity, and bursting with color. I used Gallo Family Vineyards’ Pink Moscato in this recipe. It’s fruity with hints of honeysuckle and melon. It creates the perfect base for this sangria.

To boost the raspberry flavor, I made a sweet raspberry simple syrup by boiling frozen red raspberries with water and sugar. When the syrup cools, it gets strained through a mesh sieve to capture the pulp and seeds. I also added a generous splash of red berry vodka. You could also use raspberry vodka or raspberry liquor (anything but raspberry schnapps will work). For a bit of bubble, I finished off the sangria with a touch of lemon-lime soda.

Raspberry Moscato Sangria

Sweet, vibrant sangria bursting with sweet red raspberries.

Yield: 1 pitcher

Total Time: 1 hour

Prep Time: 1 hour

Cook Time: 0 minutes



1 cup fresh or frozen raspberries

1 cup halved strawberries

1 cup fresh or frozen blackberries

1 (750 ml) bottle chilled Pink Moscato (such as Gallo)

1 recipe raspberry simple syrup (recipe below)

1/2 cup red berry or raspberry vodka

1 cup lemon-lime soda

Raspberry Simple Syrup

1 cup fresh or frozen raspberries

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup water




Add fruit to the bottom of a large pitcher. Top with chilled Moscato, raspberry simple syrup, and vodka. Stir to combine. Place the pitcher in the refrigerator for at least an hour to chill.

Before serving, stir in lemon-lime soda.

Raspberry Simple Syrup

In a small pot, add raspberries, sugar, and water. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves. Take the mixture off the heat and allow it to come to room-temperature. Strain the mixture through a mesh sieve. If you’re not going to use the mixture right away, store in an airtight container and place in the refrigerator until ready to use. The mixture can be made 3 days ahead.
