I know this is frowned upon, being that breakfast is the “most important” meal of the day, but I often reach for a glass of pour-over coffee in the morning and skip breakfast all together.
At six o’clock in the morning, all I’m really thinking about is how fast I can get my caffeine fix, and until I suck down my first cup of coffee, I’m not thinking about much else.
My morning routine is fairly simple. I head downstairs as soon as I wake up, grab my pretty blue kettle, fill ‘er up, and place it on the stove with the heat cranked up as high as it will go. While I wait for the kettle to whistle, I run downstairs to the third floor to let the pup outside to go to the bathroom. After the water comes to a boil, I prepare my coffee and immediately head to the couch and turn on the news.
It’s not at all exciting, but it’s the routine I’ve come to enjoy every morning. Even the dog joins me on the couch, where he curls up under his blanket and falls asleep.
It’s not until after my morning walk with the dog that my stomach begins to let me know it’s hungry. Unlike Squirrel, I’m not a fan of the conventional bacon, eggs, and toast. I make it for him on the weekends, but what I really crave is waffles, oatmeal, or this Honey-Lime Fruit and Yogurt Bowl. I prefer the sweeter side of things for breakfast, but that doesn’t mean sweet can’t also be healthy.
This Honey-Lime Fruit and Yogurt Bowl is loaded with good stuff. You get your daily dose of antioxidants and Vitamin C from the blueberries, blackberries, and oranges, and the protein-rich Greek yogurt helps keep you full until lunch. For a little crunch and boost of fiber, I added a generous sprinkle of my favorite Maple Pecan Granola.
