Thirsty Thursday: Chocolate Hazelnut White Russian

Because no Valentine’s Day is complete without a chocolate-infused cocktail. This Chocolate Hazelnut White Russian is delicately sweet with a hint of toasted hazelnut.

Chocolate Hazelnut White Russian Cocktail

Carrying on with the Valentine’s Day theme this week, I made you a very boozy, deliciously creamy cocktail spiked with chocolate hazelnut vodka. I must warn you, this cocktail is straight up boozy. It may taste like a milkshake, but I assure you, it’s not.

When you get up on Monday morning after swigging a few of these the night before–because it’s not your first rodeo–and wake up seeing double and your head feels like it’s going to split in half, you can’t say I didn’t try to warn you.

Disclosure: This Chocolate Hazelnut White Russian is indeed a big girl/boy drink. Yes, it tastes a lot like chocolate milk. It’s not.

If you do wake up with a hangover, pop two Ibuprofen tablets, text your boss to let him/her know that you won’t be in, and drag you butt back to bed. It’s the only cure. Well, that and a big, greasy burger with a side of salty french fries.

You know what, if my 75-year old grandmother can knock back four of these and wake up the next day like nothing happened, you’ll be all right!

I’m going to let you in on a little secret. Here it is: Amaretto liqueur is the secret ingredient. It lingers in the background all sweet and shy. I made these for my grandmother last Friday to celebrate her move to Chicago, and the first comment she made was, “Oh my, these are really good. What’s that I taste?”

It’s the amaretto! It adds a hint of almond flavor to the cocktail that pairs swimmingly with the chocolate hazelnut vodka.

Four ingredients and a few shakes of the cocktail shaker, and you have yourself a rich, creamy cocktail that goes down easy.
